Information we collect

When you submit a form on this website, we collect the information you provide — which may include your name, the name of an incarcerated or injured person, contact information (phone and email), facility, jurisdiction, and a description of your matter. We do not request or store payment information through this website.

How submissions are processed

Form submissions are transmitted directly to a third-party form-processing service and delivered to Prisoner Legal Aid by email. Submitted information is not stored in this website's public codebase or source files. As with any third-party service, standard technical information (such as submission timestamp and general request metadata) may be logged as part of normal form processing.

Who has access to your information

Information you submit is accessible to Prisoner Legal Aid staff and the licensed attorney who oversees intake and case evaluation. If your matter is referred for possible attorney representation, relevant information may be shared with a prospective independent attorney in our network for the purpose of case evaluation. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with unrelated third parties for marketing purposes.

How long we keep information

We retain submitted information for as long as reasonably necessary to evaluate your matter, provide the services requested, and comply with applicable recordkeeping obligations, after which it is securely deleted or de-identified.

Requesting deletion of your information

You may request that we delete information you've submitted by contacting us at info@prisonerlegalaid.com or 786-408-5073. We will honor such requests except where we are required or permitted to retain information — for example, records relating to an active or prospective legal matter.

Website analytics and cookies

This website uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site — which pages are read, roughly where visitors are located, and which sources send traffic. This is done with cookies and standard technical information such as browser type and referring page. We have enabled IP anonymization, and we do not use analytics to identify you personally or to build advertising profiles about you. We never send information you type into a form — names, facility, or details about a matter — to Google Analytics. If you prefer not to be measured, most browsers allow you to block cookies or use a private window, and Google offers an opt-out browser add-on.

Spam and abuse prevention

Our forms use standard anti-spam measures to reduce automated and abusive submissions.

Important limits on confidentiality

We do not make absolute confidentiality claims, and you should be aware of the following limits before communicating with us:

• Telephone calls from correctional facilities may be monitored or recorded by the facility.
• Electronic messages (email, messaging platforms) sent from within a correctional facility may be monitored by the facility.
• Non-legal mail sent to or from a correctional facility may be opened and inspected.
• Communications with Prisoner Legal Aid, as a nonlawyer service, are not automatically protected by attorney-client privilege. Attorney-client privilege applies only where legally recognized, and generally only to communications directly with a licensed attorney in the context of legal representation.
• If your matter is referred to an independent attorney, privilege protections may begin only once an attorney-client relationship is formed through a written agreement with that attorney.

Please keep these limits in mind when deciding what information to share and how.
